RICH DAD POOR DAD FOR TEENS- THE SECRETS ABOUT MONEY-THAT YOU DON'T LEARN IN SCHOOL!", BY Robert Kiyosaki

Chapter 3: "Work To Learn, Not To Earn"

I don’t know anyone personally who has this mindset but I’m pretty sure there are individuals who chose their professions to study mainly due to the amount of money they would make annually and not necessarily for any other reason. Is money the only motive for going to school and can money really be that fulfilling to the point where that is all your focus is placed upon?

The mindset needs somewhat of a shift, a shift in aspiration. I should aspire to “learn” and not necessarily to “earn” (at the same time not disregarding the earnings). Currently, I am a part of a crypto investment where a company called Novatech trades my Litecoin on my behalf and at the end of each week they give me 3% (more or less) return on my investment. For example, if I put in $100, each week I would make around $3 on my money. The next week I would make 3% (more or less) on $103 and so forth. The money at the moment is sweet, I’m not going lie, but if Novatech disappears today how am I going to survive? I don’t remember the saying word for word but if you teach a child to fish instead of handing him fish to feed on he’ll never be hungry again because if the supplier is supposed to disappear how will the child eat? The same thing goes for money accumulation. If I read biographies on the wealthiest people and how they created their fortune, brainstormed ideas on how to make my own fortune, learn from other people’s experiences and experience things on my own, backed by a driving obsession and persistence, how can I not survive? There will probably come a point that money becomes infinite due to the information in my head. Remember though…….

Information is just information. Intelligence is the ability to use that information and make it resourceful (got this line from Increasing Your Financial IQ- Becoming Smarter With your Money).

As stated in the book, working opens your eyes to opportunities, problems that need solutions to them and that’s where you would come in, solving the problem. Where there are problems there is money to be made. Add value to others lives.

The book also brought across the idea that “money is an illusion”. There’s no such thing as a life that’s better than yours – J.Cole. The older we get the less content we feel with what we have. With an increase in the amount of money we make there comes an urge or desire to increase expenses when that isn’t necessary at all. Therefore, you will always feel as if you never have enough and hence, you feel as if you have to work even harder for more income. Robert has a solution to this illusion:

- “Work to learn and to have your money work for you. Rich dad wanted me to find the power to create money, rather than to work for money.”

Control your emotions and remind yourself that you are responsible for your actions.

Some lines that caught my attention:

- “Whether or not your family needs the income, having a job is also a way to learn and identify opportunities to start your own business.”

- “You’re only poor if you give up. The most important thing is that you did something. Most people only talk and dream of getting rich….keep going. Don’t quit.”

- “But that’s not how life teaches you, and I would say that life is the best teacher of all. Most of the time, life does not talk to you. It just sort of pushes you around. Each push is life saying, ‘Wake up and learn’.”

- “I don’t want money to have such control over me. I wanted to be in control of money instead.”

- “Rich dad said that when life pushed me around, I needed to push back. By going to rich dad to tell him my problems with the job, I had learned to push back. But rather than be angry at rich dad, I needed to take action.”

- “But the truth is that if you have the right attitude, doing a repetitive task can be meditative and energizing. It actually provides an opportunity for quiet time that can free your mind to do some creative thinking…..and creative thinking is key in Rich Dad’s secrets for success!”

- “Even though rich dad taught me to “push back,” he also taught me not to let my emotions- especially fear- make my decisions for me.”

-  “”If you do not need money,” rich dad said, “you will make a lot of money.””

- “It’s okay to start something and then decide it’s not right for you, but being financially successful means learning to follow through with your plans. Besides, finishing a job- and doing it well- is a great feeling.”
